Instructions
The following is an anonymous and ungraded survey of what you believed to be valuable parts of your training in VETT 55, Veterinary Medical Terminology.
Please tell me what I did well, what I can improve on, what the most valuable part of class was, and what the least valuable part of class was.
In any evaluation, it is valuable to hear first from the person being evaluated, and so I will first provide feedback on myself.
As your instructor, I would give myself a grade of a "B." I still feel very new to being an instructor, even though this is my second time teaching this class. I find it a little challenging to teaching any course online, especially a "foreign language" course such as this.
I often really wish we were all in a classroom together, at least once per week. Trying to design discussions and assignments that will stimulate you but also help you practice these concepts is not easy. I realize some of my ideas are dry and feel like drudgery. Others are more interesting, but then I feel I'm not doing my job in helping you understand the importance of terminology.
I have tried to provide useful feedback but often my feedback has come too late. I try to respond within a week, but I underestimated the amount of time it takes to read the chapters myself, create or modify a Power Point, design discussions and assignments, and write quizzes.
I want to be the sort of teacher to you that I would like to have myself, and I want to design the sort of class that I would find valuable. I want to provide meaningful feedback. That often takes an enormous amount of time. I am not sure yet how to do everything that needs to be done, and provide feedback within a week. But I believe providing feedback within a week is essential. I will do better.
I also hope I have never come across as short or annoyed in my responses to you. I aim to have a patient and encouraging attitude. I am trying to balance this attitude with the gravity of our profession and the consequences of our decisions. These are life-or-death decisions sometimes.
For the following parts of the class, please indicate whether you believe the experience was valuable, not valuable, or you have no opinion.
1) Discussion Topics,
2) Assignments,
3) Videos linked to Canvas,
4) Power Points.
Your feedback is important! Thank you for taking the time to respond. Thank you also for taking this class. I take very seriously the chance to work with you and have enjoyed the chance to get to know you better. You brought life and personal perspectives to the many aspects of therapeutics of this semester, and I hope you enjoyed spending time together in the sometimes artificial online environment.
Take care,
Monica Kratochvil, RVT
