High School Information:

High school lasts up to four years and during that time, students are expected to take courses that will meet high school graduation requirements as well as college admission requirements.

To navigate what courses students should take while in high school, and for assistance in signing up for courses, students are highly encouraged to go see their counselor. A high school counselor is someone who can help students with academic, social, and even personal issues. A counselor offers guidance to get through high school and prepare for post secondary education, or college.  And based on the grade level, students may see a counselor every semester or any time when needed while attending  high school. Seniors, also known as 12th graders, usually seek academic help from counselors the most as they are the ones who will be soon graduating from high school and transitioning to college.

Regardless, counselors should make sure each student from each grade can be seen at least once per school semester and/or year. The other grade levels include Juniors, or 11th graders, Sophomores, or 10th graders, and Freshmen, or 9th graders.

While in high school, students should make sure that their GPA, Links to an external site. or grade point average, stays at or above the high school graduation requirement. Your GPA is calculated by dividing the total amount of grade points earned by the total amount of credit hours attempted. Your grade point average may range from 0.0 to a 4.0. Students should be at least a 2.0 GPA standing in order to graduate from high school and attend college.
