About the CVC Course Design Rubric

The Online Education Initiative's Course Design Rubric was developed to establish standards related to course design, instruction, and accessibility. The rubric promotes a quality learning environment that supports student (and instructor!) success. The CVC Course Design Rubric has 4 sections—A through D. Section A covers how content is presented in the course and the appropriate use of Canvas tools for course delivery. Section B covers how the design of the course supports interaction between instructor and students, interaction among students, and regular and effective contact throughout the term. Section C covers the various aspects of assessment and feedback. Section D covers Accessibility, ensuring that the course meets Section 508 and international web accessibility standards.

WCC uses the CVC-OEI Course Design Rubric as the quality online course design standards for peer review of courses. Please consult the rubric regularly when designing your DE courses.

Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI)

WCC uses an college-developed RSI Rubric for instructors to document their online course communication strategy, ensuring regular and substantive interaction instructor to student, student to instructor, and student to student. The WCC POCR team uses this rubric to provide feedback to the instructor on their level of alignment with recommended communication practices at the college.
